How could anyone not like music? There are so many different kinds out there that there's bound to be something you'll like. I personally like all kinds of music. I'm "eclectic." Hehe. But, as I said earlier, I am currently on an Celtic kick. Not too long ago I was on a Oldies kick. Before that, it was a Big Band thing. Before that, Soft Rock. But now, I am very happy listening to the Beatles all day. :-) Besides the Beatles, though, I also like (in no particular order) They Might Be Giants, the Ben Folds Five, Simon and Garfunkel, James Taylor, Stone Temple Pilots, Ashley MacIsaac, Live, R.E.M., Oasis, the Moody Blues, Harry Nilsson, the Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Mono Puff, the Wallflowers, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd, Bjrk, the Beach Boys, the BeeGees, Yoko Ono, the Eagles, the Doors, Soundgarden, Starship, Eric Clapton, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Enya, Paul Simon, the Cheiftains, the Monkees, Yanni, Garth Brooks, Genesis, Violent Femmes, Madonna, Weezer, and the list goes on. I also have a thing for instrumental movie soundtracks. My favorite film scorers are John Williams (who did "Schindler's List," "Far and Away," "Jurassic Park," and "ET"), James Horner (who did "Titanic," "Braveheart," "Legends of the Fall," and "The Man Without a Face") and Michael Kamen (who did "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "Mr. Holland's Opus). More of my favorite film scores include "Dances With Wolves," "A River Runs Through It," and "The English Patient." Hehe, funny, because those are also some of my most favorite movies. Coincidence? I think not!
I also love musicals, especially "RENT", "Riverdance", "West Side Story", "The Sound of Music", and my all-time favorite, "Cats".
But wait, my love for music doesn't stop there. I also love making music myself! I play, sing, and even do a little writing. I am in love with my French horn. No, I'm not a freak. I just really love playing it. I'm not the best horn player, but I don't suck, either. I play horn with my high school's highest band, and in 1996 we played Carnegie Hall. What an experience! I'm also in the school's Marching Band, in which I play the mellophone (a sort of mix between a french horn and a trumpet). I am currently the mellophone section leader. Besides French horn and mellophone, I can also play flute and tuba. I'm trying to teach myself guitar right now, but that's going real slow. I tried to learn bass guitar for a while, but that too fell through. I can pick a few notes, though. My goal is to someday learn how to play guitar, bass, piano, English horn, oboe, string bass, harmonica, percussion, and anything else I can get my hands on. :-)
I love DCI.
Like I said, I also sing and write music. I've always loved singing. It's fun! But the only thing I've ever really done with my singing is be in the school musicals. I've been in two of them (Carousel and Brigadoon), and I was a lowly chorus member in both :-( Hehe, no biggie. I'm also in a "band." It's called "Kurt and Gladdywhinger" and it consists only of myself and a good friend of mine. She's Kurt, I'm Gladdywhinger. This is why I've written a few songs. But K and G is not very productive. We don't play guitar, or bass, or drums, or anything like that. We play whistles and flutes and fifes and that kind of stuff, along with some percussion things. Sometimes, our music doesn't sound all that bad. We've never done anything with words, though. But we plan to someday, maybe, and that's why I've been writing lately. Who knows. Maybe we'll be big stars..........maybe. :-) Oh, BTW, remind me someday to tell you about "Lic".
P.S. I really, really love music.
